Outfit of the Day!

Sunday, 30 May 2010
Hey fellow blogettes! Just thought I'd update with another pretty outfit of the day :).
The weather looked kind of sunny and warm when I got up this morning - it since has decided to chop and change between glorious sunshine and frantic downpours. So I went for a skirt and top combo... although I fear I may have to get the jeans out if it starts raining again!

Here it is:

Top: Topshop - I think it was about £4 in the sale :D
Skirt: Primarni -£11
Necklace: Topshop - £4 (sale again - gotta love a bargain)

I love the floaty shoulders/arms on the top, and the really nice pale pink/corally colour. I also adore the floral skirt (you may have noticed I have a thing for florals) and at £11 you can't go wrong. I think this outfit is great for the summer, for going to BBQs or sitting in beer gardens!

Please leave a comment if you like the outfit, and hope everyone's having a lovely bank holiday weekend! xx

Tantastic!

Oh my gosh... I love being tanned. I think fake tan is possibly one of the best things ever invented. I thought I'd do a little (or maybe long, we'll see how it goes) blog on my favourite/recent tanning buys along with some tips on getting a good FAKE tan.

Ever since discovering St. Moritz I use it religously; I mean at £2.99 a pop you can't go wrong! And it is most definately the best fake tan I've ever used (as well as one of the cheapest!) It has almost identical ingredients to St. Tropez but is sooo much cheaper and I love the colour it gives me :). I was having a pastey day the other day (as you saw) but I soon slapped some fake tan on, and I love how it instantly makes you feel SO much better! If anyone hasn't yet tried St Moritz, DO IT! It's that good it even has its own appreciation society on Facebook haha!

Okay, so that was a somewhat shameless ramble about how much I love St Moritz. There is, however, another tanning product I love. Now, I don't know about you girls, but I have such a NIGHTMARE when it comes to finding the right foundation colour for my skin. I spent months and months looking for the right one and finnnnally got it in Double Wear's Sand. I chose this colour because it works for both when I'm tanned and when I'm not (naturally I'm as white as a ghost - eek) - all I need to do when I have fake tan on is brush a bit of bronzer over it and I'm good to go. However, recently I've noticed I still look a bit too pale with it on, and as summer's coming along I want to look... what's the word... 'glowing' (no, not orange, thank you very much). So then I discovered this little beauty. It's by Maybelline and it's called 'Bronzing Booster Makeup'. Basically it's like tan in a bottle... you add however many drops you want to your foundation (it comes in a easy-to-use dropper bottle, so you don't end up tipping too much in!) and voila... gorgeous summer glow. I must admit I've been adding quite a few drops to my foundation but it makes SUCH a difference, without giving me a nasty orange look. I recommend it to any fellow fake-tanners out there! Now, I got it from my local cheapy shop Boyes for an amazing £1.99, but I just checked out Amazon and it's the same price there :). Bargain! I've got it in no. 2, Bronze. I love it!

Also, another recent tanning purchase of mine is Sally Hansen's Airbrush Sun Pre-Tan Exfoliator. I cannot stress how important it is to exfoliate if you want a flawless tan. I used to think, 'How can it make a difference?!' and not bother with it, to my peril. Streaky legs are sooo not a good look. Exfoliating takes away all the nasty old skin cells and leaves you with a smooth base, perfect for applying the fake stuff. Exfoliating gloves are worth investing in, as an exfoliating scrub alone probably won't cut it - you can get them from pretty much any beauty shop for about £1.

Another key to a perfect summer glow is MOISTURISE. Fake tan can be quite drying (ah, nothing's perfect after all) and I particularly suffer from getting quite a dry neck (ergh!) and so if I don't moisturise properly I end up with nasty patchy tan around my neck... not attractive. It's important to moisturise all your dry areas (that's your feet, hands, elbows and knees) and I use Palmer's Cocoa Butter - it smells sooo gorgeous (like chocolate) and is the best moisturiser I've ever used. It leaves my skin feeling so soft and nice as well as it smelling delicious - what more could a girl want?!

Finally, remember to wear gloves, or use a tanning mitt when applying your fake tan. I use cheapy latex-free gloves and they work fine - and allow my hands to go stain-free! Also, remember once you've taken them off to apply a TINY amount of tan to your hands with some moisturiser mixed in - this stops it going patchy/too dark on your knuckles etc.

Does anyone else have any tips on faking it? Leave a comment :)

I hope you all enjoyed reading my blog and happy tanning! :)

E.L.F First Impressions and Face Of The Day!

Tuesday, 25 May 2010
Hooray! My E.L.F Cosmetics package arrived today! Very quick delivery too - I order veeeery late on Saturday night (everyone needs a late night spending spree every once in a while) and I was delighted to wake up to this lovely package this morning. Here's a picture of the package (after I'd frantically ripped it open):

And here's what I got:

And my first impressions of them all....

Duo Eye shadow Creams in Butter Pecan and Berry Mix (£1.50 each)

Ok, so I've only used the Berry Mix eyeshadow, and on first impressions I'm not overly thrilled with it. The colour is nice, if not a tad sheer, but it's the texture that I find really hard to work with. The cream is really liquidy and, like I said, pretty sheer so I found myself applying quite a lot to get the coverage I want. Now this is probably because I don't generally use cream eye shadows, I'm a pigment/pan girl usually so maybe it's just a case of practice makes perfect.

Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder (£3.50)

This is a good product. It's received great reviews and I completely agree. Although you probably can't see too well from the pictures, both powders have tiny little sparkles in which I love. The bronzer was a lot darker than what I'm used to, but this is great as it makes it easier to contour (which is what it's for, afterall). The blush wasn't quite as bright as I would have liked, but overall I'm happy with this product and would buy again.

All Over Cover Stick in Honey (£1.50)

For £1.50 this product is brilliant. It has a really thick texture and therefore thick coverage, which is what I'm after when looking for a good concealer. It covers a lot better than many more expensive concealers I've tried, so I'm very impressed. The only problem I have with it is I'm not entirely sure if the colour is right for me - but I guess that's the issue with buying online.

Complexion Perfection (£3.50)

This product I'm not entirely sure about. I get the concept, that the colours are used to neutralise any redness etc. but I really didn't notice any difference, other than that it made me look a bit pastey (as you will see in my FOTD). Maybe it's something I need to get used to, but I'm a tad disappointed if I'm being completely honest.

Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Baby Lips and Pink Lemonade (£1.50 each)

Okay, so I think I misinterpreted these 'lipsticks' when buying them online. I thought the idea was that they were liquid, yet dried like a lipstick. Wrong... of course, they're basically lipglosses that you pump. I don't wear lipglosses very often; therefore I kind of wish I hadn't bought them. They do the job, although I think they're too dark for me.

High Definition Powder (£6)

This is one of the most expensive products in the E.L.F range, but it's also my favourite. I HAD to buy it when I saw how great the reviews were, and that it supposedly created a 'flawless finish'. It really does. It makes my skin look luminous and does have the "soft-focus" effect it claims. It also gives my skin a really matte finish which I love. Love love love this product!

Overall I'm impressed with the MAJORITY of the products. Some of them I think have been a little bit 'hyped' up but obviously this is just my first impression and could change with using them a bit more - I shall keep you updated!

Here's a Face Of The Day for you:

Please excuse my messy hair! Also - I look so pale! I think the fake tan needs to come out ASAP! I'm wearing all the make up mentioned above (bar the butter pecan eye shadow and pink lemonade lipgloss/stick) along with:

Gosh Velvet Touch Primer
Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation
Primark (would you believe it) Whiplash Mascara (you have to try it - it's amazing)
17 Eyebrow Pencil in Light Brown
Collection 2000 Fastliner

Has anyone else tried E.L.F cosmetics and what products did you like/dislike? Are there any items I've not bought that you'd recommend? Thanks for reading!

My first ever outfit of the day :)

Sunday, 23 May 2010

So the weather is absolutely gorgeous (seriously, it's 27 degrees or something ridiculous) and I'm off to a looovely BBQ (strictly veggie burgers for me, of course). Therefore, I thought I'd do one of those outfit of the day things, just for fun :). Here you go:

The thing I love about this outfit is it's cheap and cheerful, even though it looks expensive. The top and lovely floral skirt are both from Primark (or Primarni, as I like to call it) - the top is a long vest-type-thing and was about £3 and the skirt was about £11. The horse/clock necklace is from Topshop and I love it as it looks so vintagey/shabby chic. I got it in the sale for around £8 (bargain!) I've also got a lovely butterfly clip in my hair (not too sure if you can see it that well - I am new at this!) which I got a while ago from Asda, would you believe it?!

Also, I placed my first order on E.L.F cosmetics yesterday, and I can't wait for it to arrive. I ordered a fair few things, so I'll hopefully have a review up on here of them sometime soon. E.L.F products seem to be getting rave reviews so I just had to check it out for myself :).

See you soon!

MAC all it's cracked up to be?

Thursday, 20 May 2010
Okay, so I haven't exactly been keeping up with this blogging business have I?! I apologise - I've been stressing with essays and hand-in dates (yawn) but luckily all that is finito now and I can get back to doing what I love; writing about fashion and makeup!

Recently I have been developing a serious obsession with makeup. It's actually getting a little out of hand - I'm spending hours on Youtube watching makeup tutorials and then rushing out to buy whatever products are recommended. But seriously, why not? I love it, even if some of the products aren't as great as I'd imagined, it's fun experimenting and trying new things out. Recently I've been obsessing over MAC - I've never really tried any of their products until recently, and I must say I love them. I can see me spending a lot of money on them!

I bought the faaaaaaaabulous Viva Glam Gaga lipstick after it (finally!) came back in stock. It isn't as bright as I orginally thought it would be, but I like this as it makes it more wearable. It also is sooo nice on my lips, doesn't dry them out at all. I'll hopefully get some pictures of it on up here soon, but right now I'm lacking in a decent camera... sorry folks! For now heres a promo pic...

Beautiful isn't it?

UPDATE: I managed to get hold of a camera so I've taken a pic with the lovely lippy on... this is after applying a few coats:

Not too shabby eh?

I also got one of MAC's many eyeshadows (my first ever one!) in the shade Woodwinked. Now I must say, when I first put it on I was like "Woooow it looks so expensive and nice" (which it is) but to be honest I'm not sure if I'm THAT impressed with it. I know people go mad over MAC eyeshadows and I wanted to know what the fuss was all about, so I was a tad disappointed. It's not that I don't like the product, it's just it's very expensive (£11 a pop!) and it does look veeeeeery similar to some of my much cheaper eyeshadows (I'm talking No. 17, Barry M etc.). I'm sticking with it though, and I probably will buy more in the future, I'm just not going to rush out and buy loads of them!

Anyway, that's all for now.... I'm going to be blogging LOTS from now on, so see you soon!
