Merry Christmas!

Monday, 26 December 2011
An ever-so-slightly late post to wish everyone a very merry Christmas! I spent most of yesterday spending time with my dog and the family, eating lots of veggie Christmas dinner and lots and lots of chocolate, and watching the usual Christmas TV (I finally got round to watching The Kings Speech, such a good film!) Of course I received lots of lovely presents; ranging from bath bombs to Harry Potter dvds and of course The Sims Pets (I'm a bit obsessed with The Sims and will shamelessly admit this was my favourite present). I might do a Christmas present post but I'm not too sure yet, I absolutely love reading them but they always make me feel a bit depressed, such is life. Anyway, I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas week; I'm looking forward to spending the next few days lazing about, seeing family, eating lots of delicious food and watching lots of Christmas telly. The above picture is of my beautiful pup Rory, who I dressed up as 'Santa Paws' for the occasion. He's such a cutie and very much enjoyed ripping open all his presents yesterday morning!

What did you all get for Christmas? I hope you had a fantastic day!

December Joliebox

Friday, 23 December 2011
I was sent my very first Joliebox in the post a couple of days ago; if you don't already know formally-named beauty box company Boudior Priv√© has now joined forces with the French beauty box brand Joliebox, taking the name Joliebox UK. I was so excited to receive this month's box in the post as I was really keen to see what the new partnership had to offer, and needless to say I wasn't disappointed.

As soon as I opened the box I was met with the letters OPI - and yes, I may have let out a little squeal. I actually don't own any OPI polishes (gasp!) but it's always been a brand I've admired, I simply love all the collections they bring out, but unfortunately I never seem to be able to get my hands on any of the polishes! So to finally have a CRACKLE polish from them is even better. It's a simply gorgeous sparkly gold, that I can't wait to try out over the festive period - I'm thinking it will go perfectly well with my gold velvet New Years dress, just to decide what colour to go underneath!

I'll admit, I'd probably have been happy to receive the box with just the OPI polish in, I like it that much. But that isn't to say the other products don't excite me either. I'm not the biggest fan of lipgloss, but the light-up New CID Cosmetics gloss is a lovely colour, and I'm a sucker for a light-up lid (even if I never go out, ahem). I'll admit, I pretty much bypassed the Kusmi Detox tea (although it may be put to good use after Christmas, maybe) and the anti-wrinkle cream - I'm not a fan of tea (personal preference) and I don't think I'm really ready for wrinkle creams just yet, but needless to say the beauty box isn't just for me so there needs to be a bit of diversity in there, which I think is great. I'm glad the box came with shower gel; I really think it's good when beauty boxes put in products that will definitely get some use, so this gets my thumbs up! The box also came with a 'Joliebox' concealer brush, which looks a really good quality but I'll have to find out if it's synthetic before I use it. Finally, another one of my favourite products from the box has to be the Jane Iredale 24-Karat Gold Dust in Rose Gold. It's a beautiful pigment, that straight away reminded me of my precious MAC Rose Gold pigment - but is perhaps not quite as shimmery and more coral-toned. It says it can be used on eyes, lips, cheeks, body and even hair; and I'm really excited to try it out both as an eye shadow and a blush.

Overall I'm really impressed with the December Joliebox. I'm excited to see what the brand has to bring for 2012 and I'm really pleased with the products I received. Did you get this month's Joliebox? What did you think to it?

The Pink Cow Bath/Shower Gels

Wednesday, 21 December 2011

Bit of a random post, but I felt the need to blog about these rather delicious-smelling bath/shower gels as I'm a bit of a clean-freak and have a mild obsession with buying shower gels. I was getting a bit bored of buying the same old shower gels (Imperial Leather etc.), and as much as I'd like to, I unfortunately can't really afford to splash out at Lush for mere necessities. So when I stumbled across these delightful looking bottles whilst perusing the Boots website, and saw that they were on offer for a mere £2 each (usually £2.99), they immediately got my attention. Now, if you're anything like me you will want to pay the smallest price possible when it comes to necessities, therefore I only usually pay about £1 for your standard run-of-the-mill 250ml shower gel. These beasts (I call them beasts, as they're rather large), however, contain 500ml, and the delightful names on the front caught my attention. Then, when I saw the golden words 'We do not test on animals' and 'Suitable for Vegetarians' I may have let out a little squeal. Cue me adding several bottles to my basket and eagerly awaiting the (hopefully) delightful-smelling, cruelty-free treats.

And delightful-smelling they are indeed. The Strawberry Sundae one is definitely my favourite - it smells of well, strawberries, and sickly sweet things (if you like the smell of Lush's Snow Fairy, I don't doubt you will like this, although it is not QUITE as amazing smelling) and is pink, therefore the best. I also bought the Lemon Cheesecake one (not pictured) which smelt really lemony fresh, ideal for when you've just woken up. The Vanilla Biscuit one smells DELICIOUS, I almost want to eat it (not advisable) but it can be a bit overpowering, and definitely not the best if you're not big on vanilla. I'm yet to try the Gingerbread one, as I think I might save it for around Christmas, but I don't doubt it will be as delicious-smelling as the rest.

The bath/shower gels are by the brand 'The Pink Cow', although a couple of the bottles I got had 'The Little Bubble Co' written on them, so I'm not sure if they've recently changed names/plan to but there you go. They smell good.

What do you prefer when it comes to shower gels? Cheap and cheerful or do you like to indulge?

Christmas Glossybox

Saturday, 17 December 2011
Was so excited to be sent the Christmas Glossybox a couple of days ago. As you know, I've reviewed Glossybox's in the past and none of them have really got me wanting to subscribe, but this one I am absolutely loving. It's by far my favourite out of all the other boxes - all the products it contains I simply know I am going to use (I've already been using a couple of them!) and it's clear they are really good quality products, a few of them full-size!

The first thing that grabbed my attention was the striking, glossy (literally) Christmassy red box. I absolutely love it this colour and made me even more excited when opening! So what was in the box? Well, a fabulous full-size Rituals shower gel, which smells absolutely DIVINE (not even exaggerating), it's Indian Rose and Sweet Almond Oil - and considering almond and rose scents are my favourite I can't wait to use this! The Deborah Lippmann nail polish made me squeal with delight - it is such a beautiful sparkly red and I absolutely love it. I painted my nails with it last night and it is the perfect Christmas sparkle. I've not used the finger mitt yet but will be doing when I have to take the glitter off, I think it's a really good idea as I always have trouble removing glitter polishes! The lipgloss looks a lovely colour in the bottle but it didn't exactly show up on my lips, it's nice over lipstick though to give a bit of extra sheen. The MeMeMe Seventh Heaven 'facebase' is the only product I was disappointed to receive, and that's only because I'd previously been sent a little tester from MeMeMe anyway, but it smells divine and appears to do the job it claims so I'm happy with it! Finally, another favourite product is the Blink+Go mascara, which pleasantly surprised me - it gives really long, quite full lashes and is the best mascara I've tried in a while. Very pleased with it!

Overall I'm really, really impressed with Glossybox's Christmas offering. I think this is by far the best box I've received as these are all products I know I'll use, and these are all really good products at that! If every box was as good as this one, I'd definitely recommend subscribing. I'm really impressed and excited to see what the new year will bring for Glossybox! What do you think to this month's Glossybox?

Barry M Once Upon A Time

Tuesday, 13 December 2011
I was lucky enough to win one of Barry M's infamous Twitter competitions a week or so ago and they asked if there was anything in particular I would want to try. I've always loved the look of the 'Once Upon A Time' nail paint (also in love with the name) so I requested it and voila! Here it is.

As you'll probably know, I'm heavily into glittery nail polishes at the moment and I really think this one has the 'wow' factor. It has thick, iridescent/holographic strips of sparkliness, which to me look like amazingly glittery hundreds and thousands or something. It's a really bright Barbie pink mixed with silver, which would be amazing for any Christmas parties coming up! It was a bit of a hassle to apply I will admit, it took about 2 carefully-placed coats and took a while to dry, but I still love it. I would probably recommend sealing it with a topcoat though (I didn't) as it feels quite rough to the touch, almost like you could pull a few of the sparkly 'strips' off.

I think it would look great applied on top of a bright pink or silver polish, but I absolutely love how it looks on its own. It costs £2.99 and is available at Boots and Superdrug, as well as online. Have you tried many of Barry M's glittery polishes? I definitely have my eye on a few more!

Favourite Blushes & Bronzers

Saturday, 10 December 2011
Sleek blush in Rose Gold, Bourjois blush in 33 Lilas D'or , W7 blush in Diamond Pink, 17 blush in First Flush, Benefit blush in Bella Bamba

Thought I'd do a little post on my favourite blushes/bronzers as I really like reading these sorts of posts! I'm the kind of person that, if I find a product I love, I stick with it. That doesn't mean to say I don't have a fair few favourites though, so I thought I would show you them.

First up - blushers. I adore blushers and I've definitely built up quite a collection of them over the years, probably even more so than bronzers (shock horror!) My ultimate favourite at the minute is the 'Rose Gold' blush by Sleek. I actually won this a while back (along with lots of other Sleek goodies) on one of their Facebook competitions, and I was so glad I did as it's a blush I'd always wanted to try and I absolutely adore it. I know it's been touted as the 'dupe' for Nars 'Orgasm', as it is also a gorgeous pink, with flecks of gold shimmer. It applies beautifully and I really can't fault it. The first thing that drew me to the Bourjois blush was the packaging, it's so pretty! Nevertheless, the blush itself is also divine. It's a gorgeous, shimmering pink that I think would work with any skin tone. The W7 blush is very similar, although it's a slightly lighter pink and the shimmer is definitely not as fine. Some people probably wouldn't like this one, but if you like a bit of 'sheen' with your blush then it's definitely worth a try. So cheap too! I had a love affair with the 17 'First Flush' blush over the summer, it is a beautiful, matte, bright coral-pink that looks great with a tan. Perfect for summer time. Finally, my one and only Benefit blush, Bella Bamba is again, a gorgeous shimmering pink, which applies really well and smells of strawberries. Yum!

H&M face & body bronzer, Prestige Cosmetics bronzer in Glam Tan, MAC WW MSF in Golden Lariat, Accessorize bronzer duo in Bali, Nars bronzer in Laguna

I love having a tan, and, as you can see, I love both shimmery and matte bronzers. The first one is actually by H & M, and is in a huge pan, meaning it should last me a good while! It's matte and a very similar colour to Nars Laguna (pictured), so will probably be my go-to when my Laguna runs out! The only problem is it's so big so not the best to carry around. Next up is Prestige Cosmetic's 'Glam Tan', a very shimmery, mineralized bronzer which is a gorgeous shimmering gold when swirled together. MAC'S Wonder Woman MSF in Golden Lariat is such a beautiful, again shimmery, bronzer, with three different sections that look great mixed together. I wore this a lot over the summer - I think it looks amazing with a tan but probably won't suit paler skin tones. Accessorize's duo bronzer in Bali is lovely - one half is a semi-matte brown with hints of glitter, whilst the other is similar to the Prestige bronzer in that it's a shimmery mix of gold and brown, but is probably even more shimmery than the Prestige offering. Finally, my favourite of all the bronzers - Nars Laguna. I know everyone loves this bronzer but I can definitely see why - it is the perfect matte brown and is so flattery and easy-to-wear. I absolutely love it, and definitely think it's worth purchasing if you're after a really versatile bronzer.
