Okay, so I know my hair isn't exactly short, but I'm getting a little bit obsessed with making it grow. I know I know, it's easy to just buy some extensions and whack them in for a bit of length and volume, but I want full-blown, NATURAL mermaid/Rapunzel hair. I'm not asking for much, right?

So, I've decided to make it my mission to achieve this. I'm pulling out all the stops to get my hair growing again - for some reason it just seems to get to a certain point and stop - so unfair. I've mentioned it before on here but I'm cutting down on washing my hair and have stopped back-combing it altogether, but now I've decided I need to really make an effort to nourish it and get it growing again.

So, I've started 'Operation: Mermaid Hair'. I sat down, worked through all my hair products and picked which ones I will be using to get my hair long and healthy, so I thought I would go through them for you.

Viridian Beauty Complex & Oil: They always say it's important to work from the inside out, so I've decided it's high time I started taking vitamins and supplements to get my skin, hair and nails looking and feeling great. I've tried taking vitamins before and as I'm really forgetful (and lazy) I completely failed at it. However, I put this on my bedside table so every morning when I wake up, I take them - without fail. It's working so far! I'm pleased with the Viridian Vitamin tablets so far, but I'm not so keen on the oil. I find it difficult to take as it's obviously a liquid oil which I don't use on a daily basis. If you have oil on your salad etc. though this would be ideal, I just prefer taking the tablets.

Batiste Dry Shampoo: As I'm drastically cutting down on washing my hair, Batiste Dry Shampoo is a complete essential to me now. I tend to get greasy roots fairly quickly so I always use this to spruce my hair up a bit. Plus, it's great for adding volume. I've tried tonnes of dry shampoos in the past and have to say Batiste and Timotei are my firm favourites.

Moroccanoil Treatment: I blogged about this a little while ago so if you want a full review check that out here, but I have found this SO crucial in getting my hair in a decent condition. My hair feels so much softer using it and I've definitely seen an improvement in hair growth.

Naked Rescue Hair Treatment: I think using a deep treatment mask at LEAST once a week is so important if you want your hair to grow. As I'm trying to wash my hair once or twice a week, I always use a deep conditioning treatment. This one from Naked Rescue is great, although I'm not sure if you can get hold of it anymore. I always leave deep conditioning treatments on for either five minutes in the shower if I'm in a rush, or for an hour whilst I potter about/read a book (outside of the shower, obviously). Deep treatments always leave my hair feeling super soft and strong.

Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment: I've been using this Hair Growth Treatment off and on for years now and although I've never seen much of a difference to my hair, I keep using it on the pretence that it might actually be doing something. Maybe.

Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Split End Protection: Split ends are my biggest bugbear when it comes to my hair, and they are often what causes my hair to break off, and thus, not grow. I absolutely love the Beautiful Ends products by Herbal Essences and this is a really cheap, quick and easy way of looking after my split ends. Love it.

Lee Stafford Big Fat Root Boost Mousse: Because I've given up backcombing to help get my hair in a better condition and most importantly, to get it growing, I've become a little bit obsessed with using this. It is seriously AMAZING at giving my hair volume and I actually wonder where I've been without it. You just squirt the mousse straight onto your roots, comb it through and blow-dry and voila - hello big hair.

What products do you use to encourage your hair to grow? Will you be following my lead with 'Operation Mermaid Hair'?

  1. GOOD LUCK! I will be so envious of your mermy hair :p xx

  2. Lovely products! I love my wella lux hair oil!

  3. I'd love to have mermaid hair, I'm definitely going to be making more of an effort cutting down drying my hair with a hairdryer, etc to try and help it. Batiste is my favourite dry shampoo, it's the only one I'll buy now :) xx

  4. I love dry shampoo, it's always handy. I haven't tried the Lee Stafford hair growth treatment but if you have used it for years it must be worth the buy.

  5. Coconut oil! I cannot recommend this enough for growing your hair out :) It makes the ends supple again, which is great as they tend to get really brittle as they're old, especially if it's coloured or heat styled! Another thing I use when I'm on a no wash day, is run the new Pantene moisture soufflé through the mid-lengths & ends... Let me know if you give any of this a go & how you get on :)

  6. I am on the exact same mission - I NEED long hair! I'm loving the VO5 miracle oil at the moment :) xx

  7. I envy your selection of products!!! I'm also trying to get mermaid/princess hair after years of abusing it and I've found going back to my natural colour and not using any heat helped a lot. Moroccanoil is a miracle worker though, isn't it?! Can't fault it at all! :) Good luck!

  8. Good luck! I need to get long hair for the summer pronto!
    Keep us updated!!

  9. Try putting a spoonful of the oil into a smoothie or something then you wont taste it :)

  10. You should try H'SUAN WEN HUA hair mask from Lush! I really think this helps hair to grow and leaves it feeling gorgeous :)

  11. You should invest in some Phillip Kingsley products and Sea Kelp tablets!

  12. I actually had the same mission a while ago, and well I achieved an amazing result after doing an extensive research, first of all before doing anything to your hair you have to make sure you're up to date with your vitamins, take Biotin as an extra and it helps HEAPS. I use the one from Holland and Barrett.
Secondly use oils and do the hair treatments, I had tried a lot of home made masks involving castor oil (which btw is brilliant for growing your hair) and some other ones. Shampoos hadn't done much to me, I had Lee Stafford one and had no significant change at all, the treatments made a literal miracle after a month I could see it growing.

  13. Love your blog, newest follower! :0)
