Happy Halloween!

Thursday, 31 October 2013

Happy Halloween everyone! I just thought I would pop a little post up with a few pictures from today's Halloween festivities. Okay, I tell a lie, we actually carved the pumpkins at the weekend (can you tell which one I did?) but tonight I took my niece and nephew out treat or treating and couldn't resist getting dressed up for it!

I've wanted to give the whole 'scary doll' thing a try for ages so was happy to finally do it - I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I wore my pretty ASOS dress that hardly ever gets a wear because I thought it was perfect for the rag doll look, and we did pretty well in the sweets department!

I'm a bit gutted that I didn't get round to doing any Halloween nail art or baking this year (check out last year's post) but things have been so hectic I haven't had a minute free! I've decided for next year, as it's going to be on a Friday I'm going to host a little party, with dressing up, lots of baking and hopefully a few spooky cocktails too! I cannot wait until I have my own place, as Halloween parties will definitely be a regular thing. I've always dreamt of going all out with the decorations, baking and outfits so hopefully one day soon I can give it a go!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic Halloween and enjoying lots of sweeties! I'm going to curl up and watch Hocus Pocus now I think, as I haven't watched it this year yet - shock horror!

Dress: AX Paris*
Necklace: Lola & Grace*

I feel like it's been absolutely ages since I did an outfit post - I think the miserable weather has been a massive deterrent lately but I braved it to take some pictures of my current favourite dress for you. I've been looking for a dress like this for ages - something black, that is flattering, nice for day and night, with a touch of faux-leather. You really cannot go wrong with a black dress and opaque tights during the winter, and this one from AX Paris ticks all the boxes. I love that I can get away with wearing this dress for work, on a night out or even just casually with some flats.

I decided to pair it with the amazing Mary Jane Fashion boots I featured in this post. I adore how these look on and although I'm still getting used to walking in them, they are the perfect boots at an amazing price. I finished off the look with my beautiful Lola & Grace necklace. I've been wanting to show you guys this beautiful piece for ages now but I really wanted to wait until A/W was in full swing as I think this is the perfect statement piece of jewellery for this season. I think it really completes the dress and is SO pretty!

Is anyone else loving the fact the weather is cooler so we can embrace hats, scarves, and all things wintry? I've picked up some seriously amazing pieces for A/W lately and I cannot wait to show you!

Jon Richard Poppy Ring in Support of The Royal British Legion

Tuesday, 29 October 2013

I'm a big lover of glitzy, stand-out jewellery, particularly if it's covered in crystals, so I was really excited when I heard about the new Jon Richard Poppy Ring, which has just been released in support of The Royal British Legions' Poppy Appeal.

Whilst the traditional poppy pin will still be firmly pinned to my coat over the next month or so, this beautiful ring from Jon Richard is a slightly more glam addition to give support to the tremendous cause. The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading charity that supports the British Armed Forces community, so wearing this ring is a great way of raising awareness, giving back, and at the same time looking glamorous whilst doing it. This crystal-embellished cocktail ring comes packaged in a gorgeous gift box and looks seriously amazing on. It goes beautifully with the current tartan trend that is absolutely everywhere, and I think is just a really unique way of showing your support for The Poppy Appeal.

The gorgeous ring costs £12 and £3.60 from the sale will go towards The Royal British Legion.

Will you be buying one of these this year, to help show your support for The Poppy Appeal? I will be wearing mine with pride!

Nazila Love Glamour Nail Glitz Review

Monday, 28 October 2013

If you know me, you'll know I'm obsessed with nail art. Even at school I would go all-out and paint my nails to match my outfit every single day, which is probably where my love for all things nail-related began. I've featured a few of my nail art creations on here before but I'd really love to feature them a bit more often, as nail art is something I absolutely LOVE doing.

Sometimes, however, the effort of creating nail art can be a little bit daunting, so I'm always looking for ways to jazz up my nails without having to go through all the effort of picking different colours, concentrating on the design and sealing it all with a top coat. I've always wanted to have uber bling nails, covered in gems and diamantes, but doing it myself would take up a lot of time and I'm not too sure how good it would look!

So, when I stumbled across Nazila Love Glamour's Nail Glitz, I fell head over heels. Their Nail Glitz are basically seriously blinged-up false nails, which are available in a tonne of different designs. There are some absolutely stunning kits on the site and I honestly want them all, but I was lucky enough to be sent three of them to try. What I love about these false nails is that they come in a kit complete with nails of tonnes of different sizes, which is so refreshing to see. I've tried nail kits in the past that have been way too small, and as I have quite big hands this is always a bit of an issue. I was delighted to see that Nazila have catered for all nail sizes here so there are different ways of combining the different nail designs to create something that fits for you.

Another thing I love about these nails is that you don't actually need nail glue to apply them - instead they come with a load of double-sided stickers which are seriously sticky and brilliant at keeping your nails in place. I did have a few mishaps with them, I will admit, as they definitely aren't as strong as nail glue, but they are no where near as messy to apply. I always get in a bit of a mess with nail glue, usually ending up with it all over my hands, so I think these stickers are a brilliant idea, and so quick and easy to use too.

The three sets I was sent to review were Chic; a gorgeous nude diamante design, Barbie; the most amazing bright pink/gold design with some seriously incredible embellishments, and Gothic; a super sexy black and silver design with diamantes and studs, which would be ideal for A/W. I love all the designs but have to say Barbie is my favourite - it's just super girly and the added embellishments are amazing.

After trying out these false nails several times I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. They are all completely stunning to look at and look incredible once on. I will say, however, that they are all veeeeery long and so if you're not used to wearing long falsies these probably won't be for you. They do make it quite hard to do anything (for example, typing is nowhere near as easy, as is taking labels off things etc.), but I think they'd be perfect for a night out or a party where you won't be doing much other than holding a drink and dancing. I was a tad disappointed with the embellishments on the Barbie set - they're quite big and so a couple of them fell off the nails before I'd even applied them, which was annoying, but nothing a bit of nail glue didn't fix.

These nails are super fun and are most certainly a talking point - if you're into your nail art or like going all-out for a night out or party, then I'd definitely recommend trying these nails. They're a tad pricey, at around £15-£20 a pop, but you do get a lot of nails and like I said, the designs are stunning and they are reusable. I'd definitely use them again and I already have my eye on this design, which I might have to treat myself to for the coming party season!

Have you heard of Nazila Love Glamour before? Let me know what you think to their designs!

Turkey Holiday Snaps

Sunday, 27 October 2013

I've finally managed to sort through my pictures from my holiday to Turkey last month, so I thought I would share some snaps with you. It feels like absolutely ages ago we made the trip to such a gorgeous part of the world, and it feels a bit surreal looking back at it now! I'd never been to Turkey before but I had an amazing time and would absolutely go back. We spent our holiday keeping very busy - not much sunbathing was done at all to be honest, as our hotel came with all-inclusive sports and activities so there was always something to do!

We would spend our days windsurfing, snorkelling, water-skiing (which I couldn't master at all but Tom was a total pro at), kayaking and everything in-between, and it was so nice to have the option to spend our days doing whatever we fancied. We also took a day trip and did scuba diving for the first time ever which was absolutely incredible. Scuba diving is something I've always wanted to do and I enjoyed every second. I think I've got the diving bug now as I'm already dreaming about diving the Grear Barrier Reef and taking a trip back to the Red Sea (I went there a few years ago and did a lot of snorkelling - the fish were amazing).

I hadn't been on holiday in such a long time and as our hotel was on its very own island in a national park, it was pretty damn amazing to say the least. Having dinner by the sea is definitely something I've really missed!

Did you go away over the summer? I'd love to hear where you went! I feel like now summer and my holiday is over I can finally start looking forward to winter and everything it brings with it. Christmas is definitely something I'm pretty excited about!

Dermalogica SkinPerfect Primer Review

Friday, 25 October 2013

When it comes to applying foundation, I simply cannot be without my trusty primer. I honestly think that if you're not using a primer before applying foundation, you are seriously missing out. Whenever I skip primer, I always notice a dramatic difference - my makeup doesn't go on as well, it goes patchy and never lasts as long.

So, when I heard there was a new primer from Dermalogica being released, I was really excited to review it. I love Dermalogica as a skincare brand and seeing them branch out into the world of primers is definitely good news to me. The SkinPerfect Primer from Dermalogica even has SPF 30, which is definitely a welcome addition, as I don't think I've ever used a primer with a built-in SPF, let alone one that is this high. The primer is tinted which is great, and is seriously smooth and soft on the skin. It smells really nice too - it's heavily scented of lavender (naturally, I might add) which I love, but if you're not the biggest fan of the scent this probably won't be for you.

This primer glides on beautifully and feels velvety smooth - you can definitely see that it is packed full of silicones to make it super smooth. It feels lovely on the skin and makes my foundation go on seamlessly, and I definitely think it helps to brighten my skin and give it a 'glow'. My foundation lasts really well with this primer and I'm seriously impressed. I love how this primer is full of skin-loving ingredients too, as coming from a brand like Dermalogica I wouldn't expect any different!

Overall I am really pleased with this primer and it's definitely up there with my favourites, the only thing I'm not so keen on is the price. It's a little bit out of my price range for primers but it is seriously one of the best I've used, so if you can afford it, it's worth a try.

Have you tried Dermalogica's SkinPerfect Primer? What do you think to it?

Superdrug's Winter Wonderland Looks

Thursday, 24 October 2013
A little while ago I was approached by Superdrug to create some looks for their 3 for 2 Winter Wonderland feature. I've worked with Superdrug before and it was an absolute pleasure, so I was ecstatic to be asked again. You can find all the looks and the products used here, but I thought I would talk you through them on here as well!

Barefaced Beauty
I was a tad apprehensive about creating this look as I hate how I look doing 'minimal', but I'm actually really pleased with how the look turned out. I really loved using the Bourjois Happy Light Primer* as it completely mattified my skin, and I was amazed with the coverage the Max Factor Whipped Creme Foundation* achieved. I really love this foundation and will be popping up a full review very soon. Finally, I finished off the look with a bit of L'oreal's Color Riche Julianne Rosewood Lipstick in Beige*, which is a really pretty neutral shade.

Bold Brows
I really enjoyed doing this look as I wanted to go for really in-your-face Cara-esque brows. I usually do my brows fairly bold anyway but I took things up a notch here and really made them stand out. I was taken aback at how much it changed my overall appearance and I actually really love it. The Beauty UK Hi-Brow Kit* is amazing (another great dupe for the HD Brow Palette), and I finished it off with a slick of Maybelline's Gel Liner* and Rimmel's Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara*, both of which I'm really impressed with. The liner is something I've always wanted to try and I love it.

Definitely my favourite look, Oxblood is really on trend at the minute and I really like how much it differs from my usual 'pretty pink' palette. I used the Vintage Romance Palette from Sleek* and it is seriously stunning. I was going to opt for the usual neutrals but I thought I'd really embraced the purple oxblood shade and go all-out, and I really like how this smokey eye turned out. I also absolutely adore the lipstick I used for this look, Collection's Gothic Glam lippy in Scorned*. It's a seriously amazing colour that would be ideal for Halloween. I painted my nails using Gosh's Nail Lacquer in Frosted Purple*, which is the most amazing matte-glitter polish I have ever seen.

Ice Maiden
I had so much fun creating this look. I wanted to channel the Snow Queen and I think I achieved the look I was going for! I used MUA's Luxe Glitter Palette in Rock Chick* to seriously glitter up the look, using it on my eyes and my lips for the ultimate Ice Queen factor. I used Revlon's Lash Potion Mascara* and finished off the look with Barry M's Textured Nail Paint in White Pearl*. This polish is so pretty and will be perfect for over the winter.

All the products are listed on the Winter Wonderland page here if you want to know more about them. Let me know if you like the looks I created!

A £1.49 Equivalent to my favourite YSL Lippy

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

If you know me well, you'll know that I love pink lipstick. Pink is my favourite colour, I'm a typical girly-girl, and it also helps that pinks really do suit me. One of my all-time favourite lipsticks has got to be YSL's Rouge Volupte in Fetish Pink, a beautiful, muted-down sickly sweet pink. I love everything about this lipstick - the texture, the fact it is so moisturising and shiny on my lips, and the amazing colour. The only thing I don't like about YSL lippies is the price tag. But for the amazing quality, you wouldn't be able to get the same anywhere else... or would you?

Well, it looks like you can. I love nothing more than a bargain basement beauty shopping trip, so a few days ago when me and my sister popped down to one of our local cheapy shops (I'm talking Home Bargains, Boyes, B&M etc.), and she started gushing about how this one lipstick is just like YSL's Fetish Pink, I snapped one up straight away.

The lipstick in question? It's a shade called 'Paris Pink', by the brand Gallery. I've bought a few things from this brand before (namely lipsticks), and I've always been pretty pleased, but Paris Pink has left me seriously impressed. I mean, seriously. This stuff is almost identical to my beloved YSL Fetish Pink. It's gorgeously creamy, ridiculously moisturising, gives a really lovely shiny sheen and is pretty much the exact same colour. I was really gutted as I thought I'd have to repurchase my YSL lippy soon but this lipstick has quickly replaced it. The best thing? It's £1.49. Literally, £1.49. Compared to YSL's pricey £23.50, that's pretty damn incredible.

I was slightly concerned Fetish Pink had been discontinued (and I still can't seem to find it many places online) but now I don't need to worry as this version from Gallery is the perfect 'dupe'. So, if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to YSL's lippy, this is definitely worth checking out.

I would show you the YSL colour to compare but sadly my lipstick is pretty much no more. However, I do have a pic of me wearing it....

See what I mean? It's not the best pic for showing you the colour, but I'm also wearing it in this video here if you want a closer inspection!

Let me know if you're a fan of Gallery lipsticks or if you'll be looking into getting Paris Pink after reading my review!
