A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited down to Snap Studios in London for a really exciting blogger shoot with John Lewis. I've only ever done a couple of shoots before through blogging so it was really nice to be asked to take part in this. The theme for the shoot was 'Tropical Summer' - and as soon as I heard that I was there. I love the tropical flowery, bright prints that summer brings, and the whole shoot had me feeling very much in the holiday mood!
When we arrived at the shoot we were greeted by all the lovely ladies from John Lewis, given some yummy Pimms to drink as well as a huge buffet of food to get stuck into. The studio was set up like a tropical paradise and I loved all the cool surfboards and suitcase props that were on show. Then of course, there were the clothes. A mass of gorgeous brights, clean white linens and beautiful tropical florals made up the rails that we were lucky enough to get to choose from for the shoot. There were some amazing pieces from the likes of Ted Baker, DKNY, Mango and Dune, to name a few.
After a drink and a nibble we were ushered over to said rails to pick up our three chosen outfits for the shoot. It was a tad overwhelming trying to choose three outfits out of all the lovely clothes; one for evening, one for casual day time wear and one of our choice. I edged away from my usual pastel tones for the shoot as tropical summer is definitely more about the brights, although I did still end up picking a beautiful pastel dress for my evening outfit. It was fun looking at what the other girls were picking as we all have such unique styles, although a lot of us were drawn to the same things.
Once we'd chosen our outfits it was time for the really fun part - hair and makeup! I've not been lucky enough to have my makeup and hair done that many times so this was really exciting for me. One of the top makeup artists from Benefit was there to do our makeup, so it was a total Benefit love-in and I loved everything she put on me. For my hair, lots of Bumble and Bumble products were used (which I love), their thickening range in particular as I told the stylist I liked my hair big and wavy. I absolutely love how both my hair and makeup turned out!
Then, of course it was time to shoot the outfits. Whilst I was a tad nervous about getting my pose on in front of the ever-so-tropical back-drop, the team at John Lewis made me feel totally at ease and it was a really quick and easy shoot. I thought I'd run you through the three outfits I put together...
First up was my casual look. I decided to step a little out of my comfort zone and go for some brights, popping on a lime green cami, casual slouchy lime jumper and some beautiful Ted Baker shorts. I paired the look with some chunky white sandals from the John Lewis range 'Kin'. I would totally wear this outfit out-and-about exploring the sights when on holiday, perhaps pairing it with a backpack for the ultimate tourist get-up.
Next up, I went back to my pastel favourites and chose this gorgeous pastel mint green multicoloured dress from, once again, the wonderful Ted Baker. I kept it simple with no accessories other than some heels from Dune, which the length of the dress unfortunately hides!
Finally, and surprisingly my favourite outfit of the three is a bit of a day-and-night combo I put together. I chose a stunning embellished kaftan from Blue Mojito and decided to compliment the look with some orange wedges from Dune and the most stunning bright orange handbag from DKNY. I think this outfit would work great as is for the night time, or worn with a slouchy bag and some flip flops for during the day. I don't think I've ever been so in love with a kaftan before!
So there you have it, my Tropical Summer Edit shoot for John Lewis. If you want to have a look at what the other girls wore and the Tropical Summer Edit in full, have a look at it here. I had an amazing time, loved all the clothes and it got me seriously lusting over holiday clothes and wanting to jet off somewhere exotic for the summer. Thank you so much for having me John Lewis!
