Whilst I'm going to be spending my night chilling at home with a buffet to feast on and lots of Prosecco to drink, I'm still going to be following my usual NYE makeup rule, by toning things up and making sure I bring in 2015 with lots of glitter, lashings of lashes and red lips aplenty.
My favourite combination at this time of year has to be a red lip and gold eyes. Gold eyeshadow is my favourite anyway, as it brings out the blue in my eyes, but particularly during the festive/New Year period I'm all about going all-out in the gold department and really adding some sparkle to those eyes. To accompany the gold? Red lips, of course. Red is festive, obviously, but it's also a big statement and looks knock-out with a little black dress.
For New Years Eve I like to smoke and glitter my usual gold eye makeup up a bit - opting for glittery pale golds as a base and black-gold glitter shadows on the outer corner. My favourite all-singing, all-dancing palette for this is L'oreal's Color Riche Palette in 'Golden Black', which features four stunning shades, all perfectly fitting for a sparkly golden-black smokey eye. If you're not one for a darker smokey eye, then Bobbi Brown's Navy & Nude Eye Palette might be more your cup of tea, with some lovely lighter, peach-toned glitter and matte shadows. For the ultimate dark golden sparkle, Dior and Armani have some fab offerings - I'm particularly a fan of Armani's 'Eyes to Kill' shadow in 25 - a definite 'wow' shade. A similar, less glittery option is the Diorshow Fusion Mono in Millenium*, a stunning shadow that glides creamily onto the eyelid, and is long-wearing - perfect for partying all night.
Finish off your eyes with lashings of mascara and a pair of falsies, of course. I'm a falsie addict anyway, but NYE is the perfect excuse to wear the biggest fluttery lashes out there. I love the whispy pair I picked up at IMATs earlier in the year, but I'm also head over heels for this stunning Shavata pair in 'Dublin'* - the perfect mix of volume and length.
Now your eyes are ready to go, it's time to complete the look with the perfect red lip. Whilst some people think they can't get away with a red lip - I completely disagree. There are so many amazing shades of red lippy out there, you're guaranteed to find one you'll fall in love with. My current faves? For the ultimate festive matte red, Bourjois' Rouge Edition Velvet in 'Hot Pepper'* is a sure winner, and will last all night without needing to be touched up - I promise. If you're after a more classic, Hollywood red, then Estee Lauder's Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Envious* is divine, glides on beautifully and gives a stunning smooth lip colour. Want to stir away from the traditional reds? Then Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution lipstick in Glastonberry is the ultimate mulberry hue, and one that I am so excited to wear tonight. Finally, if red isn't really your bag, then YSL's Rouge Volupte Shine in 19* is a stunning violet alternative. It can almost pass off as a mulberry rouge on my lips, and is another big current favourite of mine.
Now that your face is looking flawless, all that remains is to make sure your nails are looking fab too. Sticking with the gold theme, some of my favourite gold polishes include Gallery's Gold Sparkle* and Barry M's Yellow Topaz. Because New Years Eve wouldn't be New Years Eve without glittery nails, right?
How are you planning on doing your makeup this evening? Let me know if you'll be opting for a golden and red look too!
